Core

Overview

The Core capability provides the foundation dimensions shared by all other capabilities. These are always included and provide the common analytical context — company structure, calendar, BC global dimensions, and data source tracking.

Dimensions

Table Description
Company BC Company master — company name, display name, and identifiers. The tenant isolation key for multi-company analytics
Calendar Date dimension — year, quarter, month, week, day, fiscal period, Danish working day flag, and public holiday name. Powers all time intelligence calculations including working-day-based analysis
Data Source Tracks the origin of each record — identifies the BC environment and connection for filtering in multi-tenant setups
Dimension 1–8 One table per BC global dimension. Each provides dimension value code, name, and a ragged hierarchy (up to 6 levels, from BC's Begin-Total/indentation) for drill-down analysis — a value without indentation or Begin/End-Total markers appears at every level (its own code and name at level 1, "n/a" below), so its amount is never hidden regardless of how deep the hierarchy is drilled

Calendar date range

The Calendar covers whole years and is rebuilt on every refresh:

  • First date: 1 January of the year before the earliest of the first posting date in G/L Entry (Posting Date), the first Accounting Period (Starting Date), and the earliest product-specific date below.
  • Last date: 31 December of the latest of the last Accounting Period (Starting Date), the current year + 3, and the latest product-specific date below.

Each product widens the range with its own BC dates, so the Calendar covers every date its reports show:

With several companies, the accounting periods come from the company set up as the fiscal-year source for your solution. For non-BC sources, the corresponding general ledger and fiscal period tables are used.

These tables are part of the semantic model but do not correspond to BC data:

Use Cases

  • Multi-company consolidation — Company dimension enables cross-company analysis with filtering
  • Time intelligence — Calendar dimension powers YTD, QTD, MTD, and period-over-period comparisons
  • Working-day analysis — Danish public holidays and working day flags enable filtering and counting by actual business days
  • Dimension-based slicing — All 8 BC global dimensions are available for any transaction analysis, with ragged-hierarchy drill-down from top-level totals down to individual dimension values
  • Data lineage — Data Source dimension tracks which BC environment and connection each record originates from
